Buttons

Learn more about the Button element and how to use it

Buttons provide a way to have multiple choices ready to be selected within your Template.

They are designed for short and simple options. For longer or a large number of options consider using a Dropdown, Multi-select Dropdown or a Grid.

Inserting a Button

You can add a button through the toolbar in your Template Editor, or through the Slash Menu by typing /button. Once it has been added, you can start adding your options in.

Tips

  • Keep button options short and limited in number.

  • Pressing ENTER will add a new button option to the right.

  • Pre-select an option by right-clicking on the Button's option and selecting "Pre-select" in the menu.

  • Consider adding a dropdown to your button for less frequently used options.

  • Add a Label to your Button to give it more context.

Adding options

You can add options to your button by:

  • Right-clicking on the Button and selecting "Add option" in the menu, or

  • Pressing the ENTER key while focused in an existing option.

Pre-selecting an option

You can preselect options on a button to have them automatically selected whenever the Template is used to create a Clinical Note. Do this by right-clicking on the button's option and selecting "Preselect" in the menu.

When an option has been pre-selected, its text will turn purple.

To unselect an option, right-click on the option and select "Unselect" in the menu.

Note: Options in a Button's dropdown cannot be preselected.

Adding a Label

You can add a label to your button to provide more context about its options.

Adding a dropdown to a Button

Adding a dropdown to a button is a good way to have a less frequently used option still present but hidden in a dropdown menu. This helps keep your Template less cluttered.

To add a dropdown to a button, right click it and select the "Add a dropdown" option in the context menu.

Using Buttons

When using Buttons in the Clinical Note Editor, click on an option to select it.

To select multiple options, hold down the Ctrl (or ⌘ on Mac) key while selecting the options.

Once a button's option(s) have been selected, they will appear as purple text. Click on the selected text to re-open a menu with the button's options to change the selection.

Button options can be right-clicked to negatively select them (if negative selects has been enabled in your user settings).
